Roberta Blackman-Woods, MP for the City of Durham, has expressed her concern for staff and local residents after a cash machine was stolen from a Brandon convenience store.
The raid occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning, when a JCB digger was used to smash through the external wall of Sainsbury’s Local on Grove Road in Brandon, before suspects loaded the cash machine into a van.
Police have indicated that a man has been arrested on suspicion of theft, and has been released while enquiries continue. Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call Durham Police on 101.
“I am absolutely appalled to hear of this incident, and it must have been a huge shock to both the residents who live in the area, as well as the staff who will be affected by this event. I am sure that many people are very worried that this has occurred on their doorstep, but I hope they are reassured that the police have acted quickly to try and identify the suspects.
I hope that the police investigations are concluded swiftly, and that the perpetrators are identified very soon. I would urge anyone with any information relating to this crime to call Durham Police as a matter of urgency.”
