On Tuesday I, along with a number of fellow MPs, handed into Parliament a petition from my constituency and surrounding areas for the Waspi women. A fantastic total of 455 signatures for Durham!
“I rise to present this petition on behalf of the wonderful WASPI campaigners and 455 residents of Durham city on the same basis as my hon. Friend the Member for Worsley and Eccles South. I have been advised that I need to declare an interest because I fall into the relevant age group
The Petition of residents of Durham.”
I am immensely proud of the work the women are doing in campaigning and fighting the injustice done to women, particularly those who set up a branch in my constituency, Durham City.
The campaigners have set out a clear a decisive message that fairer transitional measures must be taken and the government must respond accordingly.
I take great pleasure in watching the journey of the Waspi women, acknowledging what great work they continue to do for women throughout the country who have been treated unfairly. Particularly regarding my constituency, I reiterate my gratitude to Mary, Maria and Sylvia for agreeing to coordinate the group, and what an excellent job they have done.
I hope I did the campaign proud, and I look forward to continuing to support this fantastic campaign by voicing their concerns and issues continually in the future. In the interim I intend to have a following meeting with the Durham City Waspi women in November and I am looking forwarding to seeing those there.
