Debates take place on every issue you could imagine in parliament. They can be debates over Bills before parliament or more general debates. As well as passing legislation MPs also hold the Government to account by asking questions in parliament. While debates are always spoken in either the main chamber of the House of Commons or Westminster Hall, questions can be asked orally during departmental question times, or at any time by tabling a written question.
