(COMMITTEE ROOM 2, COUNTY HALL)

I am delighted to invite you to a Planning Seminar which I am organising in conjunction with Durham County Council on Friday 12 March between 1pm and 4pm at County Hall.

I have decided to organise this seminar to enable the Council's planning officers to share their knowledge and experience with County Councillors and local residents groups in order to facilitate a greater appreciation and understanding of the planning system.

The proposed itinerary for the day is as follows:

12:30 - 13:00    Registration & Refreshments

13:00 - 14:15    Short presentations from Planning Officers

14:15 - 14:30    Coffee Break

14:30 - 15:15    Break Away Group Discussions

15:15 - 15:30    Feedback Session

15:30 - 15:45    Closing Remarks

There will be 6 break away groups covering the following topics:

  1. Conservation Issues and what can be done about them
  2. The role of the public in the planning process and decision making
  3. The role of Councillors and Council Officers in the Planning Process
  4. The role of the Planning Inspectorate
  5. The Local Development Framework
  6. National Planning Policy (PPGs and PPSs)

I do hope you will be able to attend and would be grateful if you could confirm your attendance either by calling my office on 0191 374 1915 or by e-mailing my case worker, Barry Grimes, at grimesb@parliament.uk
