Roberta Blackman-Woods MP (City of Durham) today spent time on a Durham hospital's ward with nurses today to celebrate their work on International Nurses Day at an event organised by the Royal College of Nursing. Roberta joined Senior Sister and Ward Manager, Alison Todd, Sandra Bullock, Regional Officer from the Royal College of Nursing, Gillian Parsons from the local Primary Care Trust and Laura Robson, Director of Nursing at the hospital.

City of Durham MP, Roberta Blackman-Woods, has requested that the City Council investigate the possibility of preventing development at a controversial location on land behind Kepier Heights in Gilesgate until the case is re-examined.
In a decision that has stunned many residents and the MP the City Council granted planning permission for the site via a delegated decision despite there being over twenty objections from local residents. Crucially, in contentious cases, where local people would expect to see their views represented and discussed, it is good practice for a decision be made by local Councillors at a meeting of the City Council's Development Control Committee.
