Roberta Blackman-Woods MP has welcomed the news that local Post Offices will receive a boost as the Labour Government awarded the contract for the Post Office Card Account service to the Post Office. The news will be welcomed by local post offices who rely on the business people picking up their pensions or benefits through the Post Office Card Account brings into branches. Around 7,700 people in the City of Durham currently have Post Office Card Accounts.

The Deputy Minister for the North East and MP for City of Durham, Roberta Blackman-Woods, has welcomed the announcement that more than £49 million will be spent to refurbish or rebuild primary schools in our region. This is part of an England-wide programme to invest £7 billion to rebuild or refurbish half of all primary schools across the country. £14.4 million has been earmarked for schools in County Durham alone.

Roberta Blackman-Woods MP (City of Durham) today launched the National Colleges Week at New College in Durham. The six day scheme has been organised by the Association of Colleges to celebrate the role that colleges play in unlocking talent in communities and transforming lives. Roberta also presented an award to Chris Lonsdale who competed with fellow plumbers from across the UK to become the best in the country.
