I know that many of you are extremely concerned about the proposed franchising of Durham Crown Post Office, indeed some of you have already been in touch to express your concerns so I wanted to update you on what I am doing.
Durham Crown Post Office has been identified as a possible branch for franchising, and in the event of a partner coming forward, the Post Office would then be subject to a full consultation.
I can assure you that I am very concerned about these proposed changes too. As so many of you will know, Durham Crown Post Office is an extremely busy, popular and well used main post office in the heart of the City of Durham and the continuous long queues confirm that it is exceptionally well used. It is therefore difficult to understand why this has been “identified” for possible franchising.
I want to assure everybody in Durham that I certainly do not agree with anyone taking it over and indeed I know that there is already huge opposition from residents who have already begun to contact me about this matter.
I will be working closely with Durham CWU and we will mount a major campaign against these suggested changes if this is progressed.
I hope this reassures everybody that I am and will do everything I can to ensure that these proposals do not go ahead. If you want to get in touch to voice your concerns, please do not hesitate to do so.
